By what mechanisms does the brain perceive changes in the intestinal environment, and through which neural circuits does information from the brain affect intestinal function? Through our analysis of the relationship between the brain and the gut using animal models, we found that the liver functions as a hub for accumulating and integrating intestinal environmental information and transmitting it to the brain, and that feedback information from the brain to the intestine is important for maintaining intestinal homeostasis by "regulatory T cells (Tregs)" through antigen-presenting cells (APCs).
The autonomic reflex, which consists of the intestines→ liver, → brain, is，It is said to be deeply related to modern diseases caused by "disorders of intestinal bacteria". Focusing on the research in this department, "inflammation control by gut-liver-brain correlation" is outlined.

A joint research group led by Professor Masako Akiwa and Lecturer Tomoko Matsunaga, Graduate School of Education, Kyoto University, is a group of women raising infants aged 0~4 years old. 344 We examined the relationship between depressive symptoms, gut microbiota, and eating habits. As a result, in postpartum women without mental or physical illness, those with higher depressive symptoms had lower gut microbiota diversity, especially among short-chain fatty acids, bacteria involved in the production of butyric acid (e.g., Lachnospira, Faecalibacterium, and Subdoligranulum).
The type, quality, and quantity of gut bacteria have a significant impact on the mind and body, and papers have been continuously published by universities and research institutes.
I feel that the times have finally caught up with the direction of our treatment, which we have been pursuing for about 40 years.
